Mercury Retrograde

So how are you doing? I mean really, how are you doing? When we create our own emotional security and connect with safe people who care about us (the sign of Cancer) we are free to bounce out into the world and strut our stuff (the sign of Leo). Mercury, the planet of communication and mental function has barely gone into Leo. Tuesday July 4th it turns backward and on July the 10th it re-enters the sign of Cancer. It moves forward on July 28th.

This passage gives us a chance to look within and integrate things we have learned about security and sensitivity since mid-May. What makes you feel safe? Most of us think, “more money”, but can we store up our treasures in Heaven? Who do you trust? What are your motivations for nurturing others? How do you relate to your family? Where do you feel at home? Is your domicile a true nest where you can rest and take comfort? Do you have a “tribe” of people who are aligned with your deep beliefs? We may be revisiting emotional material and decisions we made in the last 6 weeks. We can also have deep insight about things we did between the summer of 2003 and July of 2005 to play it safe.

With the mental planet going backwards we need to allow ourselves to move in instinctive rhythms and follow our gut level intuitions. It is important to have some time for privacy in your schedule. Take the usual Mercury retrograde precautions. Don’t sign important contracts, especially house contracts. Don’t buy electronics or cars. I have traveled many times when Mercury is retrograde but had to be patient with schedule changes and lost luggage. Put your toothbrush, bikini and iPod in your carry-on. Don’t launch major marketing campaigns. Triple check scheduling details and messages. Copy numbers off your cell phone into an address book.

With Mercury mostly in an emotional sign during this period, the frustrations and mistakes that often happen won’t make us run around like chickens with our heads cut off. We are more likely to react with upset tummies and tears. Have your comfort foods available and let the earth nurture you. Really! Hug a tree unless there are too many mosquitoes out. Be all touchy feelie with your loved ones. Be child-like rather than childish.

July also brings some fiery power days that are good for ambition or adventure. On July 8th, 14th, and 17th you can be bold and creative, or enjoy physical activity. Take note of any new concepts or revealing communications on the night of July 17th or early morning the 18th. Write it down so you don’t forget. After Mercury goes direct on July 28th you can take action on it

July 23rd - The action and warrior planet, Mars, goes into the practical efficient expression of Virgo. We can focus on details and accomplish a lot until we hit a yucky energy at the end of August which I will describe in the next newsletter.
